NM Technology Council Joins Forces With Special Olympics NM to Host Technology Training for Special Needs Students
/EINPresswire.com/ -- ALBUQUERQUE, NM --(Marketwired - May 13, 2016) - On May 6 and 7, Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM) partnered with the New Mexico Technology Council (NMTC) and FatPipeABQ to host a Technology Training for special needs individuals who participate in Special Olympics. The twelve participants who attended the two-day course at FatPipeABQ learned how to use social media, email, search engines, blogging and the Microsoft Suite as a means to spread the word about SONM and serve as "Technology Ambassadors" for the organization as a part of its Athlete Leadership Program.
"The great thing about the Technology Training is that we were able to invite Special Olympics athletes who have limited verbal communications skills to learn how to serve an ambassador role for SONM" stated Erin Gallegos, Communications Manager for SONM. "That's one of the main goals of our organization -- to allow people with different abilities the same opportunities to succeed and become productive members of the community. The NMTC's involvement helped immensely in upholding the integrity of this training as a legitimate tech event for its participants."
The New Mexico Technology Council and FatPipeABQ provided instructors, volunteers and the facility for the training. This is the first time that SONM and NMTC have partnered but plan to host this Technology Training together on an annual basis.
