2016 Women’s History Month Exhibition at the Verdadism Art Gallery

PHILADELPHIA , PA, USA, March 24, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- According to Soraida, “I was labeled a feminist just because I believed in women’s rights. Since 1992 I have been painting and writing to raise awareness of the issues that affect women. I have always believed in social justice and equality. I just can’t believe that society has become more intolerant. We are living in the worst of times, but we have to be positive and strong. I was born in the inner city, Harlem-New York, and as a little girl I was aware of poverty, income inequality, racism and sexism. I saw single moms struggling the most…but still holding onto hope. That’s when I realized that women can be strong."

The style of the Art of Verdadism consists of 3 parts: the abstract painting, the social commentary and the humanistic philosophy. Soraida is a truth seeker from the latter part of the 20th century who, through her Verdadism paintings, focuses on empowering women to live their own truth.

For Women’s History Month 2016, the Verdadism Art Gallery presents over 20 paintings with social commentaries, including: La Latina, Puerto Rican Stereotype: The Way You See Me Without Looking At Me, Tribute to African American Women, Self-Effacing Woman, The American Beauty Box, PMS Blues, Women Working Together.

This exhibition, A Feminist Urban Latina: The Creator of Verdadism, runs from Saturday, March 19th to Saturday, April 16th, 2016.
