Mobile News: LG G5 Debuted at Mobile Congress 2016

/EINPresswire.com/ -- NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - February 23, 2016) - LG Electronics unveiled its latest iteration of G-series smartphones today, the G5. Billed as the company's "first ever modular smartphone," the G5 features a customizable design that allows users to add modular components to the base of the phone, enhancing the device's functionality and adding another layer of use; with LG Friends, a collection of companion devices, the G5 can be transformed into a digital camera, Hi-Fi player and more.

In addition to its revamped design, the G5 comes equipped with a 5.3" QHD IPS screen that includes new display modes, including an always-on feature that continuously displays time, date, and notification data even when the G5 is in sleep mode. To minimize power consumption, LG redesigned the display driver IC memory and power management function so that the display's backlight only illuminates one small part of the overall display. Thanks to this technology, the Always-on Display requires only 0.8 percent of the battery's full capacity per hour to operate. Another display feature is the newly added Daylight Mode, which detects surrounding light conditions and instantaneously increases or decreases the brightness of the display. This will improve outdoor visibility beyond that of current auto-brightness technology.

The LG G5 incorporates a dual rear camera setup that includes a 16MP standard Field-of-View (FoV) shooter and an 8MP wide-angle lens, which offers a 135-degree Field-of-View (FoV), allowing the user to choose between standard or wide angle lenses, to get more in the shot. An 8MP front-facing camera is also on-board, as well as an entire suite of photo-editing effects to help users tailor their shots.

Powering the G5 is the new Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM in support. 32GB of storage is built-in and there's a microSD card slot for increasing storage capacity up to 2TB. The G5 also features a 2800mAh user-replaceable slide-out battery to easily swap out a depleted battery for a fully charged one in seconds, along with LG's Low Power Location Estimation technology, which enhances the battery efficiency by as much as 41.9 percent by improving the power consumption related to location-based apps. The G5 will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box, allowing it to integrate with the entire suite of Google applications, including Chrome, Gmail, Google Drive, and more.
