Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection to be Featured at Oakridge Centre

/EINPresswire.com/ -- VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/11/16 -- Oakridge Centre announced today that it will host the Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection February 24 through March 27. This first-of-a-kind initiative is an entertaining and educational touring display that celebrates the life and works of Vincent van Gogh, and provides an opportunity for the Vancouver community to experience the iconic artist through nine re-creations of his masterpieces that will be available for purchase.

Ivanhoe Cambridge's Oakridge Centre is the second North American shopping centre to introduce the high-quality, limited-edition 3D reproductions of some of Vincent van Gogh's most celebrated works. The Van Gogh Museum Edition, Canadian Tour, is an extension of the ongoing efforts by Ivanhoe Cambridge and Oakridge Centre to offer unique and cultural experiences for their guests and the community at large.

During the tour's Vancouver stop, Oakridge Centre will be hosting a number of initiatives, including an art competition and guided elementary school tours to further engage the community and share the Van Gogh Museum Edition on Tour.

The Collection

The Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection contributes to the mission of the Van Gogh Museum to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh and the art of his time accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them.

The Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection consists of nine carefully selected masterpieces: Almond Blossom, Sunflowers, The Harvest, Wheatfield under Thunderclouds, Boulevard de Clichy, Undergrowth, The Bedroom, Fishing Boats on the Beach at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Landscape at Twilight.

Each work is reproduced by means of an advanced technique called Reliefography, developed by Fujifilm Europe. It allows the Van Gogh Museum to re-create Van Gogh's art in full three-dimensional, high-quality detail and resemble the original works as closely as possible.

"Van Gogh often used thick applications of paint on his canvas, making his work well-suited to showcase the new technology used to produce the Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection," explained Axel Ruger, Director of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. "These high-quality limited editions allow people to experience the power and strength of Van Gogh's imaginative brushwork in an innovative new manner, as well as to acquire their own Van Gogh masterpiece."

The Van Gogh Museum has authorized, certified and numbered a limited edition of 260 of each of the nine reproduced masterpieces, which contain imaging of both sides of the painting, including a museum-quality frame. Small details, such as the stickers on the back stretcher bars, highlight where and when the painting has been exhibited throughout the world.

Willem van Gogh, the great, great grandson of Vincent's brother Theo van Gogh, will be the special guest of honour to celebrate the opening of the tour at Oakridge Centre. "Through the utilization of cutting-edge technology, we are able to share my family's legacy with new audiences across the globe, including here in Vancouver," said Willem van Gogh, Advisor to the Board of the Van Gogh Museum and enthusiastic supporter of the Museum's efforts to carry on Vincent's legacy.

"Ivanhoe Cambridge is thrilled to be the first to bring the Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection to North American shopping centres as part of our ongoing efforts to enrich the shopping experience for our visitors through unique, entertaining, cultural and relevant activations," said Belinda Davidson, Vice President, Strategic Marketing, Ivanhoe Cambridge. "The touring Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection is a truly unique and memorable experience that you won't find anywhere else."
