Harris Institute Alumni Up For Major Awards
Harris Institute is the first school with graduates nominated for all the major music, film and television awards in North America - Grammys, Oscars, JUNOs, Emmys and Canadian Screen Awards (CSA).
Alumni have received 124 awards and nominations in the last two years. They contributed to the #1 Billboard hits ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’ and ‘Earned It’ by The Weeknd; ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry; ‘Wrecking Ball’ by Miley Cyrus; ‘Sugar’ by Maroon 5; the soundtrack for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’; the music for the ‘Mad Max’ trailer; Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity’ and the sound mix for Orphan Black, Vikings and HBO’s Silicon Valley.
“Harris Alumni are having a championship season”, says president John Harris. “Our faculty and staff are thrilled. I congratulate them and all the nominated graduates”.
Honours Grad James Porter manages Stephan Moccio who is nominated for six Grammy Awards with The Weeknd and the Academy Award ‘Oscar’ for ‘Best Original Song’ in a feature film for ‘Earned It’.
Marilee Yorston is nominated for Canadian Screen Awards for ‘Best Sound in a Drama’ and ‘Best Sound in a Variety Program’. Kirk Lynds is nominated for ‘Best Sound in a Drama’. Todd Beckett was nominated for the Emmy Award for ‘Outstanding Sound Mixing’ for Silicon Valley. Beckett’s classmate Andrew Tay won the CSA for ‘Achievement in Overall Sound’ in 2015 and 2014.
Henry ‘Cirkut’ Walter is nominated for the ‘Jack Richardson Producer of the Year’ JUNO Award. Canadian Music Hall of Fame member Jack Richardson (1929 - 2011) taught ‘Production Applications’ at Harris Institute for 14 years. Eric Ratz is the first to win consecutive JUNO Awards for ‘Recording Engineer of the Year’ (2015 and 2014).
Mike Denney won the ‘Record Company Person of the Year’ Canadian Country Music Award for the last two years. His MDM Recordings won ‘Record Company of the Year’ and MDM artist Jess Moskaluke won ‘Female Artist of the Year’.
Harris Institute is the only school outside the US in Billboard Magazine’s ‘Top 11 Schools’. An unprecedented partnership with the University of the West of Scotland enables Harris students to earn two Diplomas and an MA in 32 months. The Audio Production Program and Arts Management Program start in March, July and November and are taught by 62 active industry leaders.
