LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, January 28, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Canadian screenwriter and television producer Thomas Pound has been busy developing the two new one-hour drama TV series "The Brick" and "The Faculty," which audiences can look forward to seeing in 2016.

Pound has an undeniable prowess for crafting riveting stories that keep viewers on the edge of their seats with anticipation. Over the years he has become known for his work as a writer on ABC and Global's popular crime drama series "Rookie Blue," the multi-award winning mystery crime series "Motive," and the horror film "Torment," which he both wrote and produced in 2013.

While his two newest projects, "The Brick" and "The Faculty," are definitely different from one another, Pound's storylines for both shows share similarities in that they are based in small towns and center on the way the people of these communities are affected by and deal with crime.

"The Brick," which Pound is developing for The Movie Network (TMN), will be one of the network's first original cable one hour dramas. Set in a small prairie town where mom and pop shops run strong and chain markets and department stores are nonexistent, "The Brick" follows what happens when a crime organization from the big city moves in and tries to turn the town into their home base. While the people of the quaint little town are wholesome and relatively non-combative, when this scummy organization moves in, one man, the owner of the local hardware store, stands up and organizes his own mob to defend their way of life.

"I have been developing this project with Bell Media and Pier 21 in Toronto since the summer of 2015, and aim to have an announcement early this year on the predicted release," said Pound.

Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a place that Pound describes as a 'giant small town,' was largely influential in his story development for the upcoming series.

"Everything I create today goes back to my roots. Growing up in the prairies instilled a strong sense of community, family, and wholesome living," explained Pound. "'The Brick' started as a love letter to the prairies. Witnessing a small town I would spend summers in, Brooks Alberta, become hit with big box-stores and chain corporations changed the simple small town memories I had from childhood… Knowing the people from that small town and their polarizing opinions on what this means for their way of life, it was an easy creative leap to build a fictional world using this prairie touchstone."

Pound's other upcoming project, "The Faculty," a heavy hitting dramatic series that he is developing with The Nightingale Company, will bring to life a story on screen that is more relevant to today's audiences than ever before. The series centers on life at a small prairie town school in the aftermath of a devastating school shooting and follows the faculty members as they work together to overcome the trauma and put the pieces back together with hope as their guiding light.

"We have been developing the series for a year, and aim to bring it out into American markets this year," explained Pound.

As a writer and producer Pound has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry and in the minds of audiences with a track record of successful productions.

In 2010 he wrote, directed and produced the dramatic thriller film "The Wilderness Within," which followed Lana, played by Jenn MacLean-Angus ("The Killing," "Gracepoint"), a young woman whose solo journey into the wilderness threatens her life after she falls from a rock fracturing her leg with no one to call for help.

Not only did "The Wilderness Within" receive a fabulous reception from viewing audiences, but the film also earned Pound the Silver Ace Award from the 2011 Las Vegas Film Festival.

"It was a gratifying achievement for a project I solely wrote, directed, and produced on my own," recalled Pound.
While Pound has had incredible success as a writer and producer of his own projects, he also has the rare and valuable ability to collaborate with other writers to make projects a success.

Sherry White, executive producer of "Rookie Blue," as well as the new Shonda Rhimes' series "The Catch," recalls, "Thomas Pound came into our room and within minutes he was pitching well thought out, smart, and complete ideas. He’s quirky, smart, sharp and nice. You can’t beat that when looking for a member of a writing team."

As a writer and story editor for the hit mystery crime series "Motive," which premiered on CTV in Canada and aired on ABC in the U.S., Pound and the team behind the series earned a prestigious nomination for Best Dramatic Series from the Canadian Screen Awards in 2014.

For audiences who have already seen Pound's work on the thrilling crime dramas "Motive" and "Rookie Blue" his talent as a writer in this genre is immediately apparent. And, as he prepare to bring the upcoming series "The Brick" and "The Faculty" to the screen, his prowess as a producer and writer in the genre will only continue to grow.
