Mainstreet Hires One of the Nation's Top Health Care Innovators

Dr. Bill Thomas Set to Join Mainstreet Health

/EINPresswire.com/ -- CARMEL, IN--(Marketwired - January 20, 2016) - Mainstreet®, a national investment company known for creating innovative solutions to benefit consumers, has hired one of the most innovative minds in health care, creating a partnership that aims to enter into and disrupt local markets of health care delivery with a consumer-centered focus. Dr. Bill Thomas joins Mainstreet Health as its new director of innovative health care.

Dr. Thomas is a Harvard-trained geriatrician and internationally recognized expert on aging. He is an Ashoka Fellow and winner of the Heinz Award for the Human Condition. Best known for his health care system innovations, he is the founder of a global non-profit (The Eden Alternative), which works to improve the care provided to aging Americans. He is the creator of The Green House®, which Provider Magazine has called the "pinnacle of culture change."

Dr. Thomas' synthesis of imagination and action led the Wall Street Journal to highlight Dr. Thomas as one of the nation's "top 10 innovators" changing the future of retirement in America and US News and World Report to name him as one of "America's best leaders." The magazine noted his "startling common-sense ideas and his ability to persuade others to take a risk," and concluded that "this creative and wildly exuberant country doctor has become something of a culture changer -- reimagining how Americans will approach aging in the 21st century."

"Mainstreet is committed to fundamentally changing the way health care is delivered nationwide," said Zeke Turner, founder and CEO. "With the addition of Dr. Thomas, our intent is to do something disruptive, to reinvent the entire 'senior care' sector. He is a top innovative mind within health care and with his collaboration, we plan to take an intolerable product and make it something desirable."

Within Mainstreet Health, Dr. Thomas will help lead the development of innovative experiences for aging Americans in all facets of health care. His history of innovation, including The Eden Alternative and The Green House Project, will play a vital role in Mainstreet's future and his disruptive innovations will be incorporated into Mainstreet's design, development and operation of post-acute and long-term care. Dr. Thomas' vast array of contacts within the health care industry will assist in Mainstreet's efforts to expand transitional care as a cost effective solution for post-acute patients, designing and developing the NextGen® long-term care model and incorporating community-based efforts for the local delivery of health care services. As Mainstreet Health delivers new and disruptive models of the health care experience to consumers, Dr. Thomas will provide the person-centered perspective needed to take health care delivery to the next level.

"Senior services is entering an exciting new phase that is going to reward innovators and risk takers with sustained growth and offer consumers more choices and significantly better experiences and outcomes," said Dr. Bill Thomas. "Joining Mainstreet places me at the epicenter of a revolution that is transforming the field of long-term care."

Today, there are 2.5 million aging Americans in long-term care and the national average age of nursing homes is 40 years old. Making matters worse, many states protect the failing status quo by banning innovation and new product development through outdated health license regulations. Mainstreet Health and Dr. Thomas plan to reinvent the experience and design of health care nationwide.

Mainstreet announced in 2014 the launch of a new operating company -- Mainstreet Health -- to further revolutionize the industry and transform the consumer experience. With due diligence and the hiring of David Stordy, Gary Smith and now Dr. Thomas, Mainstreet Health has a projected 10 projects in the pipeline for development and operation in 2016.
