UC Davis and SunPower Completed 16.3-Megawatt Solar Plant

January 2016 - University of California, Davis (UC Davis), together with San Jose-based SunPower, has constructed a 16.3-megawatt (AC) solar power plant on a 62-acre site south of Interstate 80. SunPower will own and operate the project and sell the generated power to UC Davis. The solar array will use tracking and robotic panel-cleaning technology, which will improve the efficiency of the power generating process. The solar project is estimated to supply 14 percent of electricity demand at UC Davis, which will also reduce the campus's carbon footprint by 9 percent or approximately 14,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. The project is part of UC Davis' goal to obtain 60 percent of its power needs from renewable and carbon-free sources by 2017.
