(NASDAQ: EHTH) (eHealth.com), the nation's first and largest private online health insurance exchange, announced that consumers can use eHealth.com to apply for government subsidies and enroll in health insurance in 38 states until December 17, 2015. Officials at Healthcare.gov announced an extension of the original enrollment deadline on December 15, 2015.
eHealth has also identified forty-one states where consumers not using subsidies can apply for coverage after the original December 15, 2015 deadline and be insured on January 1, 2016.
Enrollment Extensions for January 1, 2016 Coverage with a Subsidy
- December 17, 2015: AL, AK, AZ, AR, DE, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, IA, KS, LA, ME, MI, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WI, WY: In these states, eHealth is accepting applications from subsidized shoppers for January 1 coverage until December 17, 2015.
Enrollment Extensions for January 1, 2016 Coverage without a Subsidy
- December 17, 2015: AL, AZ, DE, FL, IL, KS, MI, MS, NC, OK, SC, TN, TX At least one health insurance company has indicated it is accepting health insurance applications for January 1 coverage until December 17, 2015 in Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
- December 24, 2015: LA. At least one health insurance company in Louisiana has indicated it is accepting health insurance applications for January 1 coverage until December 24, 2015.
- December 25, 2015: MA, MD, NY. At least one health insurance company has indicated it is accepting applications for January 1 coverage until December 25, 2015 in Massachusetts, Maryland, and New York.
- December 28, 2015: PA. At least one health insurance company in Pennsylvania has indicated it is accepting health insurance applications for January 1 coverage until December 28, 2015.
- December 31, 2015: CO, CT, GA, IA, ID, IN, KY, ME, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NV, OH, OR, UT, VA, WA, WI, WY. At least one health insurance company has indicated it is accepting applications for January 1 coverage until December 31, 2015 in the states of Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Health insurance shoppers in the states identified above who still wish to enroll in coverage starting January 1, 2016 should visit eHealth.com to review their options.
State-run health insurance exchanges in some states may also extend the application deadline to apply for coverage that goes into effect on January 1, 2015.
The current nationwide open enrollment period for individual and family health insurance began on November 1, 2015 and is scheduled to continue through January 31, 2016. For many consumers, this period may be their only chance to apply for premium subsidies and enroll in the major medical individual and family health insurance coverage they need for 2016.
