Equinix Goes 100% Renewable with 225MW Wind Energy Purchase

December 2015 - Equinix, a global interconnection service provider, has signed a combined 225-megawatt (MW) of power purchase agreements (PPA) with both Invenergy and an affiliate of NextEra Energy Resources. The PPAs will supply electricity generated from wind for Equinix's data centers in North America. The PPA with the NextEra Energy Resources affiliate will provide 125 MW of capacity from the Rush Springs Renewable Generation Facility located in Grady and Stephens Counties in Oklahoma. Equinix will purchase the remaining 100 MW of wind energy from the Wake Wind Energy Facility in Floyd and Crosby Counties, Texas, which will be delivered to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) regional electricity grid. The PPAs will result in an estimated 1,013,000 megawatt-hours of annual electricity production. This purchase will bring Equinix' s total renewable energy use in North America to 100 percent and double the company's global renewable energy use from 43 percent to 82 percent. Both projects will be fully operational by the end of 2016.
