Google and Duke Energy Collaborate on 61MW Solar Project in North Carolina

December 2015 - Google will purchase enough energy from a 61-megawatt solar project in Rutherford County, North Carolina to power an entire data center. The purchase is the first agreement reached under Duke Energy's Green Source Rider program. Under the agreement, Duke Energy will buy energy from the solar farm in Rutherford County and Google will purchase energy credits that represent the electricity generated for its Lenoir data center in North Carolina. This deal will help Google move forward toward the company's commitment to purchase 1.2 gigawatts of renewable energy under long-term contracts globally.
