Update 1.4 is designed to improve the overall speed and performance of the camera by shortening the start-up time, enhancing the autofocus speed and precision, and refining the touch control functionality. Additionally, improvements to Wi-Fi stability have also been added for more secure remote shooting from a smartphone or tablet.

In addition to the firmware update, Leica has also announced the development of two new prime lenses for their L-mount mirrorless camera system. The Summilux-TL 35mm f/1.4 ASPH. is designed for use on the APS-C-format T (Typ 701), or on the full-frame SL (Typ 601) in APS-C mode, and provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length. The lens design pairs a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture with aspherical elements to produce well-corrected imagery in a variety of lighting conditions. Also announced is the APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH., which is the first macro lens available for the system and provides a 90mm equivalent focal length. This lens features an apochromatic design, and utilizes aspherical elements, to produce sharp, clean, and color-accurate imagery throughout the focusing range.
