Enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving as a Captain and Commander of a surgical unit, he began his service at Long Binh and then moved up-country with the U.S. Marines in action near Danang, the DMZ, and the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Returning stateside in 1968, Dr. J. Laurance Hill began an amazing 55-year career before semi-retiring. He has written over 100 articles documenting laboratory and clinical research, medical information and surgical textbooks. Dr. Hill is the well-known skilled surgeon who performed the famous ground-breaking surgical separation of conjoined twins sharing a heart, liver, diaphragm and chest wall in 1986. The girls, Ciera and Tiera Bennett were successfully separated at the age of 2 months by Dr. Hill and his 24-member medical team. Throughout his career, Dr. Hill has additionally been involved in clinical research, public health, public speaking, and grant writing, to mention only a few of his accomplishments.
