Clean Energy Collective to Bring More Community Solar Benefits to a Broader Market

October 2015 - Clean Energy Collective (CEC), a Colorado-based roofless community solar company, recently developed two innovations to their community solar model. First, CEC launched a shared solar program that will allow investor-owned utilities (IOUs) to incorporate community solar projects into their rate base. The new program will allow the utility to own the project and include it as an asset within their rate base. Under the program, customers will benefit from lower participation costs, favorable contract lengths as well as a reduced payback period. As a result, IOUs will be able to more readily meet customer demand for renewable energy, comply with regulatory requirements, and receive additional profits. Second, CEC signed a strategic module supply agreement with First Solar. The partnership will develop and market community solar offerings to residential customers and businesses directly on behalf of partner utilities. Under the agreement, CEC will purchase First Solar's advanced technology modules and other equipment for use in CEC's community solar projects. So far, four projects have used the supply agreement.
