The Leica SL is sure to make a big splash in the sea of mirrorless cameras, thanks to an impressive list of specs that will leave the most discerning photographers satisfied. This is Leica’s first full-frame mirrorless camera, and it features a 24MP CMOS sensor with no low-pass filter and the Leica Maestro II processor, which combine to enable 11 fps burst shooting at full resolution, and a native sensitivity range of ISO 50-50000.

Video recording capabilities include full HD 1080p at up to 120 fps, UHD 4K at 30 fps, and DCI 4K at 24 fps. The SL can record internally at 8 bit and can record 10-bit color depth to an external recorder via HDMI. A flat V-Log L gamma profile maximizes dynamic range and allows the user greater flexibility and control when post-processing video. A built-in microphone records stereo audio with manual or auto level controls, and a 3.5mm mic input and a 3.5mm headphone output give you further control.
The 2.95" 1.04m-dot back-lit LED touchscreen features anti-fingerprint and anti-scratch coating. As an alternative to the LED display, the 0.66" 4.4MP EyeRes electronic viewfinder offers 0.8x magnification for optimized eye-level viewing and composition.
Fast autofocus is realized via a contrast-based AF system, burst shooting can be captured at 11 fps for up to 33 DNG images or unlimited JPEG files. A primary card slot accepts UHS-II SD cards and a secondary slot takes UHS-I SD cards. Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities are built into the camera, allowing easy sharing and geo-tagging of images.
The body of the camera is made from two machined pieces of solid aluminum, and weather-sealed to stand up to shooting in adverse conditions. The body design features control dials and a top 1.28" monochrome LCD screen for viewing your settings. The SL (Typ 601) is a departure from Leica’s common body design, as it incorporates a large ergonomic grip, more often seen on SLR-style cameras.

Also introduced with the SL (Typ 601) camera is the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm f/2.8-4 ASPH lens, which fits onto the SL’s L-mount bayonet. This new L-mount is identical to the T-mount seen on the Leica T; however, being a full-frame camera, when using existing and future T-series lenses it will only operate in APS-C mode. The 24-90mm lens features Optical Image Stabilization to reduce the appearance of camera shake, a fast and precise AF motor, and a minimum focus distance of 1'.

Leica has also announced the upcoming arrival of two more L-mount lenses in 2016: the APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm f/2.8-4 and the Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. For adapting lenses, the M-Adapter-T allows you to attach any of the 48 M-mount lenses, while upcoming adapters will allow use of medium format S-mount lenses, R-mount lenses, and PL-mount cine lenses.
The camera comes with the BP-SCL4 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack, the BC-SL4 Battery Charger, SL Camera Cover, USB 3.0 Cable, and a lens-cleaning tissue.
