CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Omni Wellness Center celebrated its Patient Appreciation Day on October 15, 2015, from 7 AM to 8 PM with the proceeds from the event going to support equine therapy programs at Shining Hope Farms.

Shining Hope Farms has served the Mount Holly community for over a decade. The farm offers specialized therapeutic equine services to individuals with a wide range of disabilities including autism, Down Syndrome, hypotonia, brain injuries and other developmental disabilities. The farm's two locations at Mecklenburg and Gaston County serve over 130 adults and children on a weekly basis.

Equine therapy works to calm even the most excitable riders and encourages them to interact with the animal as much as their disability allows. Riders can walk, talk and connect with the horse while therapists work with the rider to encourage positive behaviors and gently discourage negative ones.

Dr. Darcy Walraven Ladner, Omni Wellness Center founder and chiropractor, was excited about offering her support to Shining Hope Farm's valuable programs. "Horseback riding is an enjoyable activity and something that the riders look forward to. I love my patients and am grateful to them. Without them, I couldn't do this work that I love so much. To be able to show appreciation for my patients and support such a worthy cause as Shining Hope is a great opportunity. We are proud to be able to support the good work that they do."

For a $30 donation, new or existing patients who have not received treatment in the past six months were offered an initial exam and any necessary x-rays to reach a preliminary diagnosis. Patients will then receive a complimentary second consultation appointment to receive their report of findings (ROF) and discuss treatment options. If additional treatment is recommended, the doctors will develop a customized treatment plan to alleviate or eliminate the symptoms of conditions such as sciatica or fibromyalgia.
