#MakeItMandatory: Teamsters Canada Launches Web Series on Mental Health
Teamsters want to make mental health support mandatory at the workplace
/EINPresswire.com/ -- LAVAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 10/15/15 -- Teamsters Canada is launching a documentary web series on mental health issues facing young workers. The seven episodes will be released weekly at www.makeitmandatory.ca. They feature stories from courageous young workers who faced or are facing mental health issues.
"Mental health issues take a devastating toll on our members" said Francois Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada. "Today we launch our campaign to raise awareness about the problem and to make mental health support mandatory at the workplace."
Mental health affects every aspect of a person's life. Unfortunately, there is still stigma associated with opening up about mental health issues - especially at work.
Meanwhile, the annual cost of mental illness to the Canadian economy is 51 billion dollars. In any given week, 500 000 workers miss work due to mental health issues.
Besides personal stories from workers, the videos feature appearances from Justin Trudeau, Tom Mulcair and Elizabeth May. Hockey stars Sheldon Kennedy and Brian Burke also open up about how mental issues affected their lives.
"We spoke with experts, advocates, politicians and young workers throughout Canada," added Mr. Laporte. "I think you'll see that everyone benefits when we build up healthier, more inclusive workplaces."
