LIU Post Redefines Paradigm for Educating Tomorrow's Business Leaders

Brookville, NY - (NewMediaWire) - October 1, 2015 - LIU Post offers students unprecedented opportunities for engaged learning and transformative experiences that lead to career success through an innovative model for business education. Five percent of the world's business programs have earned the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International Accreditation and LIU Post is among this highly selective group.

The proven paradigm for educating business students focuses on top-tier classroom instruction strengthened by highly coveted internships, networking opportunities, and professional skills development. LIU has partner affiliations with a roster of impressive Fortune 500 companies, as well as a broad and involved alumni network that helps students attain sought-after internships and jobs.

"LIU has attained status as a powerhouse business school, as evidenced by our highly successful alumni, prestigious national rankings, and talented leadership and faculty," says Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, president of LIU. "Our students build a portfolio of skills and experience that ensures they can launch rewarding careers and be highly competitive in a broad range of industries."

Recognition for Achievements and Outstanding Leadership

LIU Post is comprised of three schools that have all won notable accolades:

  • School of Business: ranked among Princeton Review's "Best Business Schools" for 13 consecutive years.
  • School of Professional Accountancy: the nation's very first school in this field; the school's graduates are regularly recruited by Big 4 firms as well as major corporations.
  • School of Computer Science, Innovation, and Management Engineering: a participant in the IBM Academic Initiative, preparing students for working in large scale systems environments as integrated in nearly all Fortune 500 companies.

On-Campus Incubator, Financial Markets Lab, and Student-Run Businesses

In addition to high-level internships with firms in New York City and on Long Island, LIU offers students substantive business experience right on its Brookville campus.

"We are taking engaged learning to a new level, giving our students opportunities to develop the confidence and real-world experience that personify an entrepreneurial spirit -- an advantage they can use to succeed in any field they choose," says Dr. Robert Valli, Dean of the LIU College of Management. "Our graduates enter the job market having already directly applied their education to meaningful work."

LIU Post is home to Innovate Post, an on-campus entrepreneurship incubator, where students collaborate and receive mentorships to develop and launch their own ventures. Students have a chance to work alongside the proven entrepreneurs -- and to develop their own businesses for incubation.

The campus also offers the Financial Markets Lab, which is equipped with Bloomberg Terminals providing students with access to the Bloomberg Professional services technology platform featuring real-time news, corporate information, price quotes and an electronic trading platform. This gives students a chance to work with the same information and technologies used by their future employers as well as receive certification.

Student-run businesses on campuses offer options for ambitious students to tangibly build their careers well before graduation. These provide a place for students to gain real-world business experience as they independently manage, market, operate, and staff the ventures, which include The Student Body, a fashion boutique, and Browse, an authorized Apple products retailer and all-purpose technology center.

Globally-Accomplished Leadership and Faculty

The three schools that encompass the LIU Post College of Management recently gained new leadership that brings highly notable professional and academic experience. Dr. Robert Valli has been appointed to lead the LIU Post College of Management as Dean, with Ray Pullaro and Graziela Fusaro named as Assistant Deans.

Robert Valli's professional background, focused on entrepreneurism, has spanned industries that include investment banking and technology ventures in Silicon Valley, the Kauffman Foundation, and academic administration. A published author on the rise of global technology clusters and other topics, he has managed global consulting engagements in Europe, South East Asia, and Brazil. Dr. Valli holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, was a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Alumni Board of Directors, and received his Ph.D. from the Department of Engineering at Cambridge University.

Ray Pullaro, who spent nearly two decades of experience on Wall Street, brings a deep portfolio of financial industry experience. He was managing director for the Blackstone Group within Blackstone's Alternative Asset Management division, which was responsible for over $32 billion in assets. Before joining Blackstone in 2006, Mr. Pullaro was a senior investment officer at UBS working on the Alternative Investment Solutions team.

Graziela Fusaro is a former partner at Araújo Fontes, one of the largest mergers and acquisitions boutiques in Brazil. She joined Araújo Fontes as the first -- and, to date, only -- woman partner at the firm. During the past 10 years, she completed several M&A transactions and consulting projects in Brazil, South America, U.S. and Europe.

"Our faculty as well as our leadership is remarkably accomplished, including distinguished professors with an international background," notes Dr. Cline. "This enables LIU Post to offer a curriculum that reflects and prepares students for the global nature of today's economy."

Baichun Xiao, the chair of the department of management and senior professor, is known for his contributions to the field of Management Science and Operations Management. He has been a distinguished visiting professor at leading universities worldwide, including Peking University, and was honored for his research at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

T. Steven Chang, chair and professor of marketing and international business, brings an impressive mix of teaching and research experience to LIU. He has taught IMBA in Switzerland and MBA programs at the headquarters of Northrop Grumman, Olympus, Motorola, Symbol Technologies and Verizon, and conducted seminars throughout China, Europe, and the U.S.

Jared Wolfe, assistant professor of marketing, serves a mentorship role for a number of students involved in internship programs, independent studies, and senior honors theses. He holds degrees from Cornell University and Duke University, and has published in prestigious marketing and consumer research journals.

Manoj Dalvi, associate professor of finance, specializes in commodity markets, derivative securities, and portfolio theory. He holds advanced degrees from Harvard Law School and Columbia University.

Licensing and Branding Institute

The Licensing and Branding Institute is just one example of an LIU program that gives students an edge in a growing field.

Led by Michael Stone, CEO of Beanstalk, a leading global brand licensing agency and part of the Diversified Agency Services division of Omnicom Group, the program has developed a partnership with the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers' Association (LIMA) and participates in internships with its members. Students in the program learn how to make, source, or license brands; expand retail channels domestically or internationally, leverage digital technologies to promote branding and license, and the legal issues involved in branding.

Dr. Cline concludes, "Through these partnerships with leading professional associations, as well as Fortune 500 companies, our students are gaining an unprecedented direct access to many growing global industries -- enriching their education as well as setting the stage for career success."
