City of Baltimore to be Powered by Solar Energy
August 2015 - The City of Baltimore will purchase all of the electricity from a new 10 megawatt (MW) solar power plant. The agreement is expected to save the city $13 million on energy costs through a fixed-rate 15-year agreement. Constellation Solar is building the solar facility on land leased by the City in Harford County. Once completed, the solar plant will produce approximately 13 million kilowatt-hours in its first year, which is equivalent to about 3.7 percent of the city's total annual electricity use. The deal is part of Constellation's previous commitment to develop between 285 to 300 MW of new generation in Maryland, including 125 MW of wind and solar energy.
