More than 100 talented, football-loving
teenagers from 27 countries are forging new friendships and gaining
valuable skills on and off the pitch this week at the Copa Coca-Cola International Camp in
Berlin, Germany. The six-day
camp represents the pinnacle of this season’s Copa Coca-Cola tournament, which
has seen more than 1.3 million teens compete in more than 60 countries and
represents the world’s largest brand-supported grassroots initiative.
Now in its 27th year, Copa
Coca-Cola unites teens in every continent,
promoting an active lifestyle and encouraging values that are the foundation of
life and sportsmanship. Each of the skilled teenagers invited to this year’s
Copa Coca-Cola International Camp competed through a series of regional rounds
to participate in local national championship before being selected for the
global tournament. During the Camp, players have received expert coaching
during training sessions with Hansi Flick, assistant coach of the German
national team, as well as receiving expert insight and guidance on exercise and
nutrition from the FIFA World Cup winners' yoga instructor and chef.
Players will also have the chance
to learn tips and tricks from other inspirational players including 2014 FIFA
World Cup winner Benedikt Höwedes and 1990 FIFA World Cup winner Pierre Littbarski at the prestigious Lindow Sports Academy on the
outskirts of Berlin.
This year’s Copa Coca-Cola
International Camp is themed around "Which Part Will You Play?", recognizing
that every footballer plays an important part in their team and this goes
beyond football skills; it’s about character and the positive traits players
bring, both on and off the field. During
each team training session, players will have the opportunity to practice
skills that will help them perfect different parts they can play on a team such
as the perfectionist, the machine, the heart, the impossible and
the joker.
As a finale to this year’s Camp,
attendees will attempt to set a new Guinness world record for “The Longest
Header Chain” – the world’s longest chain of people heading a football to each
other without the ball touching the ground. The attempt will be recorded and
judged by an official adjudicator from Guinness World Records and become a part
of Guinness and Copa Coca‑Cola history.
