Amazon Web Services to Purchase 208-MW of Wind in North Carolina
July 2015 - Amazon affiliate Amazon Web Service (AWS) has agreed to contract with Iberdrola Renewables to build and operate a 208-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Perquimans and Pasquotank counties, North Carolina. The new wind farm, named the Amazon Wind Farm US East, is anticipated to generate 670,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of wind energy per year once it becomes operational in December 2016. Approximately 25 percent of the power consumed by AWS's global infrastructure now comes from renewable energy and the company has a goal of increasing that percentage to 40 percent by the end of 2016.
