City of Cologne, MN Goes 100 Percent Solar
June 2015 - City of Cologne, Minnesota has finalized a deal with SunShare to power up to 100 percent of its city facilities' power needs from solar energy. The electricity will be generated from more than 2,700 solar panels in SunShare's solar gardens and is allocated to meet the power needs of public facilities throughout the city. The solar systems are being developed through Xcel Energy's Solar*Rewards Community program and are expected to be operational by the end of 2016. This deal is anticipated to save the city $1.1 million over the 25 years contract period.
