Chicago, IL (June 15, 2015)

The American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative, now in its second year, has been honored with awards as it addresses lung cancer—the number one cancer killer of women.

LUNG FORCE, in partnership with national presenting sponsor CVS Health, works to make lung cancer a public health priority, drive policy change and increase research funding. The American Lung Association is proud to announce this initiative was recently honored by both the Cause Marketing Forum and Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center’s the one hundred.

The American Lung Association and CVS Health were honored with the Silver Halo Award in the Best Health-Related Campaign category by the Cause Marketing Forum, and will receive the award at the Forum’s annual conference this week. The Cause Marketing Halo Awards are North America's highest honor in the field of cause marketing. They are awarded by the Cause Marketing Forum, a Rye, NY-based company that provides business and nonprofit executives with the practical information and connections they need to succeed.

LUNG FORCE was also honored by the one hundred. Each year, the one hundred honors 100 amazing individuals and groups who are changing how we fight cancer in inspiring and often revolutionary ways, and the American Lung Association was featured as an honoree among those 100 this year. Created and supported by the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, the one hundred is an awareness and fundraising initiative that celebrates hope in the cancer community.

“While lung cancer is the leading cancer killer of both men and women, awareness about the disease is extremely low, especially among women,” said Harold P. Wimmer, National President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Lung Association. “Through LUNG FORCE, the American Lung Association has set out to raise awareness about lung cancer so everyone understands their risks, and to also advocate for innovations in research that will lead to earlier detection and more personalized treatments, so everyone has a fighting chance.”

“It’s an honor to be recognized by both the one hundred and the Cause Marketing Forum, which underscores our efforts to increase awareness about this urgent health issue,” Wimmer said. “We've built momentum since launching LUNG FORCE last year, but there's still urgent work to be done. We ask all Americans to join us in the fight against lung cancer in women by sharing their voices."
