Apple Tops Greenpeace's 2015 Clean Energy Index

May 2015 - Greenpeace has released their 2015 Clean Energy Report, titled "Clicking Clean: A Guide to Building the Green Internet". The annual report evaluates the energy demand of the internet and internet-related technology companies based on energy transparency, renewable energy commitments and internal policies, energy efficiency and mitigation, and renewable energy deployment and advocacy. Apple, Facebook and Google continue to be the leaders for deployment of renewable energy. The report recognized that the 100% renewable energy commitments by Amazon and Equinix are important steps forward. Compared to last year, Akamai, Rackspace, and Yahoo saw an improvement in their energy efficiency and mitigation score while Salesforce and Digital Realty made progress in their energy transparency. Apple received an "A" for all categories, which is the highest score awarded. Greenpeace is calling for companies to make a long-term, 100% renewable commitment to improve transparency on IT performance and consumption of resources, and to develop a strategy for increasing their supply of renewable energy.
