After a two-week trial in the Mobile County Circuit Court, the jury returned the verdict in favor of Colin Lacy, awarding the compensation for medical expenses, past and future lost wages, and punitive damages from a 2011 truck accident.

Mr. Lacy was traveling on Interstate 10 near Niceville, FL in the Florida Panhandle when the truck he was driving for his employer became unstable, causing the truck to lose control. His spine was severed, and as a result, he was paralyzed from the waist down. Mr. Lacy spent more than two months in the hospital and faced intense rehabilitation, and he is confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Before the accident, Mr. Lacy had complained about a vibration in the truck’s suspension, and Empire Truck Sales, LLC had serviced the vehicle shortly before the accident. Suit was filed in Mobile County Circuit Court against Empire along with the manufacturer of the cab and the seat belt manufacturer. The jury ruled in Mr. Lacy’s favor and against Empire and awarded $18.79 million in damages.
