SAN FRANCISCO – On May 13, U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will join Alameda County to recognize the largest collaborative in the nation among government agencies to site renewable energy at their facilities. Administrator McCarthy, the federal government’s point person for the battle against climate change, will be joined by Bay Area officials and solar industry executives at the West Winton Landfill in Hayward, a centerpiece of the Regional Renewable Energy Procurement Project, a partnership of 19 public agencies in four Bay Area counties involving 186 Bay Area facilities for a total of 31 megawatts of solar power. The West Winton Landfill will be repurposed by installing 19,000 photovoltaic solar panels to generate over 6 megawatts of renewable power -- the first of its kind in the Bay Area and one of the largest in California.
