CAEL To Help Military Spouses Earn Their Degree
CAEL’S LearningCounts.org Now Available for Military Spouses
CHICAGO, IL, USA, May 6, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program (SECO) has contracted with the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) to give military spouses the opportunity to earn undergraduate college credit for college-level learning gained from volunteer and community service, work experience, training programs and independent study, CAEL CEO and President Pamela Tate announced today. Through this effort military spouses will have access to CAEL’s LearningCounts™ Prior Learning Assessment program which teaches people to find practical ways to earn college credit for learning acquired outside the classroom saving them both time and money as they work towards their college degree. When asked about the partnership Tate said, "We are thrilled that the Department of Defense SECO program has chosen to make LearningCounts.org available to military spouses. Military spouses face additional challenges while working to complete their degrees given the complexities associated with military life, such as service member deployments and frequent relocations. LearningCounts.org can help them get college credit not only for what they have learned on the job, but for skills and knowledge they may have gained through volunteer activities and other experiences related to military life."
Through the LearningCounts.org program, military spouses can choose from an instructor-led or do-it-yourself online course where they will learn to identify and demonstrate college-level learning gained outside of the classroom. Using the knowledge from the course, students develop a Learning Portfolio that relates that life and work experience to college courses. Eligible spouses will be able to complete the course and Learning Portfolio at no charge.
