More than 23% of Wind PPAs in 2014 Signed by Non-Utilities

April 2015 - The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) released the 2014 U.S. Wind Industry Annual Market Report on April 15, 2015. The AWEA report noted that over 23 percent of all wind power contracts in 2014 were signed by corporate purchasers and other groups, such as government agencies and universities. A considerable amount of investments came from companies such as Amazon, Dow Chemical, Google, IKEA, Mars, Microsoft, and Yahoo. In the non-profit and government sector, the U.S. General Services Administration, the U.S. Air Force, Cornell University, Ohio State University and Oklahoma State University have made notable investment in wind energy. The report also mentioned that the continuous reduction in wind energy prices contributed to the increased investments. In total, more than 1,770 MW of wind power purchase agreement (PPAs) have been signed by commercial and industrial, governmental, and educational institutions.
