Apple to Invest $848 Million in California Solar Farm
February 2015 - Apple will invest $848 million in the Flats Solar Project, a 2,900-acre solar farm to be built by First Solar in Monterey County in California. Apple will receive 130 megawatts (MW) of electricity from the solar project through a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).The generated electricity will provide energy to Apple's new Cupertino campus, a data center and some of its offices, as well as 52 retail stores in the state. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2015 with completion anticipated by the end of 2016.
