Novelist Hopes to Convert Cancelled Book Into Collectible
Author Frustrated that Professional Collectors Are Charging Premium Prices
WASHINGTON DC, USA, December 31, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Novelist Hopes to Convert Cancelled Book Into CollectibleAuthor Frustrated that Professional Collectors Are Charging Premium Prices
After three years of effort, Terry Irving’s first novel, “Courier,” hit the market on April 29, 2014. His publisher, Exhibit A Books, trumpeted,
“Courier is a political conspiracy thriller as exciting as Three Days of the Condor, with a lead as cool as Easy Rider, all set in Nixon-era Washington. Written by a four-time Emmy award-winning writer and producer, this is a killer blend of action and surprise twists, certain to appeal to fans of James Ellroy and Dennis Lehane.”
Only days later, on June 7, 2014, the tone of the announcement from Exhibit A’s parent company, Angry Robot, was quite a contrast,
Our YA imprint Strange Chemistry and our crime/mystery imprint Exhibit A have – due mainly to market saturation – unfortunately been unable to carve out their own niches with as much success. We have therefore made the difficult decision to discontinue Strange Chemistry and Exhibit A, effective immediately, and no further titles will be published from these two imprints.
Somehow, Irving has managed to keep the book on the market and, lately, even improved it’s sales but no other publisher has picked it up. Consequently, at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, the remaining copies will be sent out to be “mulched for compost.” Pleas to Amazon to allow him to sell his own book as a Signed Collectible have been in vain (because, well, he’s not a Collectible dealer because…he hasn’t sold Collectibles before) and he’s been forced to watch as “Collectible” copies are advertised for anywhere from $30 to $60—“signed by the author!”
So, Irving has decided to create his own Collectible. On New Year’s Eve 2014, he will sign, date, and number 100 pristine copies of the Exhibit A edition of “Courier” fresh out of the box, seal them in archival plastic, and offer them to the public for only $25 with no charge for shipping (in the US.) Each book will be accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity as provenance.
These special books will only be available at Terry Irving’s sales site at PayPal, just click on “bit.ly/lastcourier” or type it into your browser.
The Kindle version of “Courier” is published by Irving’s own Ronin Robot Press and will continue to be available at Amazon.com. With any luck, a new trade paperback edition will be released soon.
