December 2014 - IKEA announced that it is expanding the size of the rooftop solar array on its Canton, Michigan store by approximately 25%. The 44,000-square foot expansion, consisting of a 240.9-kilowatt system is expected to produce an additional 287,490 kWh of electricity annually for the store. Once the expansion is completed, the IKEA Canton store will generate 1,426,490 kWh of electricity per year. The expansion will contribute to IKEA's 40 MW goal. IKEA owns and operates each of its rooftop solar PV energy systems. The new solar panels will be installed beginning in the spring of 2015 and will be completed by summer.
