Danbury Fair Mall to Be Powered by 750 kW Fuel Cell
October 2014 - Danbury Fair Mall in Connecticut, along with Bloom Energy entered an agreement on an installation of 750 kW fuel cell project to provide the 1.3 million-square-foot building with clean energy. Macerich, the mall owner, launched a sustainability program in 2008 focusing on renewable energy implementation, energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable buildings, waste management and green operational practices and procurement.This fuel cell is estimated to reduce 3 million pounds of carbon emissions annually and Macerich's carbon emissions have declined by over 150,000 metric tons over the past 5 years.
Macerich has completed 5 solar projects and 8 other renewable projects, which total 12 MW—enough to power 10,000 homes annually. In 2015, Danbury plans to add more than 400 solar panels to its roof.
