National Aquarium and Constellation Sign 25-Year Electricity Supply Agreement

October 2014 - The National Aquarium and Constellation announced a 25-year electricity supply agreement aimed to help the Aquarium offset energy usage and encourage the development of renewable power in Maryland. Under the agreement, Constellation will fund and construct a 4.3 MW solar system, located on about 22 acres in Cambridge, Maryland. The solar system will produce an estimated 5.8 million kWh during its first year of operation, which will provide the equivalent of more than 40 percent of the aquarium's annual energy needs. The solar energy is expected to reduce 4,409 tons of CO2 annually. The Aquarium will receive solar renewable energy credits from the solar power system under the electricity supply agreement.
