Extraordinary Dancer Taylor Reardigan Lends Her Talents to New York Musical

Canadian dance champion Taylor Reardigan to choreograph the production of "A Christmas Story" alongside Antoinette DiPietropolo in New York.

LOS ANGELES, CA, USA, October 28, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Internationally renowned dance champion Taylor Reardigan is currently working as the associate choreographer alongside Antoinette DiPietropolo on the upcoming musical “A Christmas Story,” which will open at John W Engeman Theater in Northport, New York on November 20.

Based on the writings of radio humorist Jean Shepherd, the musical will take America’s beloved holiday film “A Christmas Story” and bring it to life on stage in a comedic and lively format the whole family can enjoy. Audiences will have the opportunity to see the musical several times a week from November 20 through January 4, 2015.

“[Taylor] has a great skill for story telling through her dancing that always enhances a story. As a dancer she has elevated every production she has done,” said choreographer Antoinette DiPietropolo. “When she walks into the room you know there is something special about her.”

Antoinette DiPietropolo has choreographed a long list of well-known performances including the national tour of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” which was shown at Madison Square Gardens in NYC and the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, the Off-Broadway production of “With Glee” at NYC’s Kirk Theatre, Ragtime at the North Carolina Theater, as well as many others.

Taylor Reardigan will also be performing as a dancer in the musical “Homecoming,” which opens this Friday at the York Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York. “Homecoming” is a contemporary adaptation of the Prodigal Son, the last of three parables of Jesus that focus on loss and redemption.

After being captivated by the magic of Riverdance as a toddler, Taylor Reardigan, who is originally from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, knew the world of Irish dance was something she wanted to be a part of, but she had no idea just how far it would take her. Having begun intensive training as an Irish dancer at the age of 6, Reardigan’s incredible talent and dedication to the sport of Irish dance made her a tough competitor for anyone to beat.

“I progressed very fast and quickly began winning almost all of my competitions. Then before I knew it I was qualifying for the World Irish Dancing Championships and traveling all over the world for Irish dancing competitions,” explained Reardigan. “I then began taking other styles of dance such as tap, ballet, jazz and hip-hop.”

Over the course of her career as a competitive Irish dancer, Reardigan has garnered an extensive awards list that includes 1st Place at the Comerford Feile na Nollaig in Palm Springs, California, 1st place Preliminary Champion at the Edmonton Irish Sports and Social Society Feis, 8th place at the Western Canadian Region Oireachtas, 4th place at the Edmonton Irish Sports and Social Society Feis, 8th place in the World Qualifier in Kelowna, British Columbia, and many more. After winning numerous world qualifiers Reardigan went on to compete at the 2008 World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow, Scotland where she received 15th place, as well as the 2009 World Irish Dancing Championships in Belfast, Ireland, where she received 13th place.

Aside from the multiple overflowing trophy cases that serve as a testament to her history as an award-winning dancer, several radio stations including 98.5 Virgin radio, CJAY 92 and Funny 1060 have interviewed Reardigan about her impressive dance accomplishments.

For Taylor Reardigan Irish dance served as a gateway for self-exploration and discovery, one that would set her on a path towards a successful dance career that now extends far beyond the world of competition. While the competitive nature of the sport forced Reardigan to perfect and refine her skills as dancer in order to win championship competitions against the best Irish dancers in the world, Irish dance also gave her the venue to develop the mesmerizing stage presence she is known for today.

During her teenage years Reardigan began landing roles in high-profile theater productions and musicals where she would perform on stage in front of crowds of thousands of people.

“I was in a production of ‘Leaps and Bounds’ at Victoria performing arts,” recalled Reardigan. “I was against 200 other girls for a role and it was amazing because it was my first time being cast as a jazz dancer.“

After the production of “Leaps and Bounds,” Reardigan played Sharpay in the production of “High School Musical” which showed at St. Francis and Victoria Performing Arts in Canada, as well as the renowned Ukrainian dance production “Shumka,” which was held at the Jubilee Auditorium, and the production of “Shhh!” in New York.

Although Reardigan first began cultivating her foundation as a dancer through Irish dance, she easily transitioned into other styles of dance like hip-hop, jazz, tap and ballet, and was asked to be a part of the television shows Blacklist and Starz’ Power where the nation got to see firsthand her extraordinary abilities as a dancer.

Most recently Taylor Reardigan landed a starring role in the acclaimed Big Apple Circus where she will perform an Irish dance ensemble in New York next year.
