France's Manufacturing Possessions in New Zealand Boom . . .
Allflex SA and Schneider Electric in Oceania Growth Sectors
HASTINGS, HAWKES BAY, NEW ZEALAND, October 20, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- France's Manufacturing Possessions in New Zealand Boom . . . Allflex SA and Schneider Electric in Oceania Growth SectorsFrance's investment in New Zealand manufacturing continues its spectacular performance. PDL of Christchurch, and Allflex of Palmerston North dominate their quite different sectors.
Allflex, owned by Allflex SA has the overwhelming market share in the sphere of livestock identification products.
PDL Industries, owned by Schneider Electric, has regional dominance in domestic and industrial electrical fittings. PDL employs around 1500 people and indications are that it is responsible for around USD350 million of Schneider's worldwide sales.
Allflex was founded in 1955 by New Zealander John Burford. He was among the first to see the full potential in the electronic age and progressively his livestock identification tags were modified to the point at which the tag contains an entire biography of the animal.
Before his premature death, Mr Burford understood that the company needed an international organisation in order to sustain both sales and especially service. Allflex graduated to French ownership via the Wellcome Institute.
It has now extended its tagging line of products into animal tissue sampling systems.
PDL Industries was founded earlier by Sir Robertson Stewart who thrived during the era of New Zealand's rigid protectionist era which lasted until the mid-1980s. He too foresaw the changes to come and established PDL as New Zealand's first manufacturing multinational.
He also foresaw the growth of Asian markets and established a strong manufacturing foothold in Malaysia. Sir Robertson similarly saw the need for a global sales and service network for the Christchurch company's products. He too saw France as the international gateway for the company.
The success of these two acquisitions in the French portfolio contrasts with dismay at France's heavy engineering-manufacturing sector, notably Alstom, under acquisition by United States and German buyers.
