IBERDROLA INCLUDED IN FTSE4GOOD INDEX FOR FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW

IBERDROLA has been included for the fifth year in a row in the prestigious international FTSE4Good 2014 index, which aims to promote investment in the most sustainable companies worldwide.

The company has met the requirements set by the committee in charge of deciding which companies are included in the index. In this edition, for which a new more demanding methodology was used, the focus was on respect for the environment, social commitment and good corporate governance.

On the one hand, IBERDROLA has once again received international recognition for its indicators linked to climate change, pollution and resources, water, biodiversity and environmental aspects of the supply chain.

On the other, this inclusion in the FTSE4Good 2014 index confirms the Group's excellent performance in relation to work standards, human rights, safety and health, responsibility towards its customers and social aspects of the supply chain.

Finally, IBERDROLA also met the organisation's requirements as regards corporate governance, risk management, anti-corruption mechanisms and transparency in taxation.

On account of its best practices in the sector, IBERDROLA became the first utility in the world with nuclear assets to be included in the FTSE4Good index in 2010.

IBERDROLA was also once again nominated in September for the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2014, which has become the main international benchmark for measuring how companies contribute towards sustainable development.

The DJSI acknowledged IBERDROLA for its policies focusing on combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, involvement with stakeholders and promoting innovation and eco-efficiency.

The company has also once again been ranked among the eight most sustainable electric utilities in the world because of its strategic approach based on international growth and the development of renewable energies, a sector in which it is now the leader, with an installed capacity of over 14,600 MW.

It should be highlighted that IBERDROLA is the only European electrical utility to have been included in all 15 editions of the DJSI. This proves its firm commitment towards sustainability and the effectiveness of its strategy in responding to the main economic, environmental and social challenges facing energy policy in the domestic and international spheres.

Commitment to sustainability

The Board of Directors of IBERDROLA approved its Sustainability Policy in December of last year, thereby ratifying and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in all of its operations. This means that the company has integrated the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainability into all of its activities in the energy sector.

The energy sector is currently poised for change. The IBERDROLA Group wishes to lead this transformation, while offering increasingly competitive energy products with the lowest possible environmental impact and guaranteeing a reliable supply to its customers.

The company remains firmly committed to using the most environmentally-friendly technology for generating electricity, in a bid to become one of the companies with the lowest CO2 emissions in the electricity sector.

In this regard, IBERDROLA reduced its CO2 emissions worldwide by 8% in the first six months of this year, dropping from 212 grams per kilowatt hour (kWh) in 2013 to 194 grams per kWh.  In Spain, the emissions recorded by the Group totalled 30 grams CO2 per kWh between January and June, compared to 40 grams per kWh in the same months of 2013. This is equivalent to a 25% drop in emissions.

IBERDROLA also ended the first semester of 2014 with 61% of its total output and installed capacity CO2 emissions-free. In the case of Spain, these figures stood at 94% and 72%, respectively.
