EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Director Jamie Clover Adams was one of eleven 4-H alumnus recently inducted into the Michigan 4-H Emerald Clover Society in Grand Rapids.
The Michigan 4-H Emerald Clover Society honors former Michigan 4-H members whose professional leadership and community service reflect the ultimate outcome of 4-H membership – extraordinary use of an individual’s head, heart, hands and health to make communities, the country and the world better places in which to live. This recognition is provided by Michigan 4-H Youth Development with support from the Michigan 4-H Foundation.
“I am honored to join this distinguished group. 4-H projects taught me many valuable lessons which helped me throughout my professional career. I learned the importance of preparation and practice, how to problem solve, how to win and lose gracefully, to work for long-term goals rather than short-term gratification, and to step up and perform when required,” said Clover Adams. “My parents laid the foundation for a strong work ethic, and 4-H provided the tools to overcome obstacles along the way. I would encourage more people to volunteer to join 4-H – whether as a leader to mentor students – or become an active participant. It’s an experience which has shaped my career and has served me well.”
Clover Adams was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder in July 2012. Prior to becoming director, she worked in various governmental leadership roles for nearly 25 years in two state capitols, as well as our nation’s capital. She has served in both the legislative and executive branches and several business trade associations covering a broad range of issues.
Clover Adams was born and raised on a farm in Saranac, Michigan. She was an active Ionia County 4-H member from 1972-1982 involved with 4-H cooking, sewing and livestock (beef and sheep) projects. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and has a master’s degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University. ###
