July 2014 - SunShare, a Denver-based community solar company, is currently building solar fields in Jefferson and Adams counties in Colorado that will deliver a cumulative total of 4 megawatts (MW) of energy per year into the Xcel Energy electrical grid. The City of Westminster, CO, has pledged to purchase a total of 256,000 kilowatts of total energy, enough to power approximately around 60 homes for 20 years. The solar farms are expected to be operational at the beginning of 2015. The City of Westminster is joining other communities in reaping the benefits of solar without the burden of upfront costs and private ownership.
