Arnaldo Trabucco has taken his medical practice to Italy after years in the United States.

Arnaldo Trabucco attended Adelphi University, a private, nonsectarian university in Garden City, New York. He graduated with honors in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

He attended the Columbia University Medical School in New York, and the University of Rome School of Medicine & Surgery, Rome, Italy. He graduated with honors from both institutions, completing his studies in Rome in 1982.

From there, Arnaldo Trabucco, MD, FACS began his years in residency. "I began my clinical training at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in general surgery where I was exposed to a vast amount of trauma, and have had an enormous amount of clinical hands-on surgical experience as a first year resident in general surgery," Arnaldo Trabucco recalls. "I then continued my clinical career at Saint Mary’s Hospital, a Yale University Hospital affiliate in Waterbury, Connecticut and completed my second year of general surgery training."

After all of this training in Europe and on the East Coast, Arnaldo Trabucco, MD, FACS shifted gears and went to the Midwestern United States. "I was accepted into the urologic surgery training program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where I completed my urological surgery training and chief resident year in 1987. During that time I had a vast amount of training in all forms of urologic surgery, including percutaneous nephrostomy and nephrolithotripsy, and a vast amount of urologic oncology where we were doing Maintz and Koch pouches for urinary diversion accompanied with radical cystectomies."

Arnaldo Trabucco’s residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center provided him with a great deal of medical experience. "I also started to be trained in orthotopic neobladder reconstruction," he explains. "We did a vast amount of radical nephrectomies, endoscopic urolithiasis, pediatric surgery, urethral reconstructions, stress urinary incontinence and urogynecology as well as transurethral resection of prostate and all forms of general urology training."

Arnaldo Trabucco, MD, FACS comes from a long line of physicians, many of whom have developed innovative techniques; he soon followed this family tradition. "I was also engaged in research which I then invented the Trabucco double balloon ureteral catheter, which was used in conjunction with extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy when I presented this in Egypt in 1988 at the World congress of Endourology," he says. "This product was used as a form of treatment for ureteral stones in conjunction with extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy with over 95% success rate."

By 1987, Arnaldo Trabucco, MD, FACS had completed his residency and went into practice for himself. He began in New York, but over the years had practiced all around the United States. By late 2013, circumstances led him to close his American practice and relocate to Italy. "I felt comfortable in making the transition," he says now. "I then decided to continue to practice state-of-the-art urology in Italy as well as provide teaching to my colleagues in various cities throughout Italy from Northern to Southern Italy to give back to my heritage all that I learned in the United States."

Arnaldo Trabucco, MD, FACS is a widely published researcher who work has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals. When he isn’t working, he keeps fit by engaging in many outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, and swimming.
