EPA Proposed Plan Meeting Scheduled for International Mineral and Chemical Site in Spartanburg, SC

ATLANTA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold a public meeting on June 26, 2014 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm to explain the Proposed Plan for the International Mineral Chemical (IMC) Site in Spartanburg, SC. EPA is issuing this Proposed Plan as part of its public participation responsibilities under Section 300.430(f) (2) of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP). The Proposed Plan summarizes information that can be found in greater detail in the Focused Feasibility Study (FFS) Report and other documents contained in the Administrative Record file for this Site.

This Proposed Plan identifies the Preferred Alternative for the contamination found at the IMC Site and provides the rationale for this preferred alternative. In addition, this Proposed Plan includes summaries of other cleanup alternatives evaluated for the Site. This document is issued by the EPA, the lead agency for site activities, and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC), the support agency. EPA, in consultation with the SC DHEC, will select a final remedy for the site after reviewing and considering all information submitted during the 30-day public comment period.

EPA, in consultation with the SC DHEC, may modify the Preferred Alternative or select another response action presented in this Proposed Plan based on new information or public comments. Therefore, the public is encouraged to review and comment on all the alternatives presented in this Proposed Plan. The comment period is from June 9, 2014 until July 9, 2014. Comments should be sent to Giezelle Bennett at Bennett.Giezelle@epa.gov. Oral and written comments will be accepted at the meeting.
