Attorney Guy Seligman Shares Top 5 Misconceptions About Driver's License Suspensions

Seligman has identified following the five leading driver’s license misconceptions that can lead to legal problems.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA., USA, June 20, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- With three decades of experience, Fort Lauderdale attorney Guy Seligman has helped thousands of clients with suspended or revoked driver’s licenses. Over the years, Seligman has identified following the five leading driver’s license misconceptions that can lead to legal problems.

1. A few unpaid traffic tickets are nothing to worry about.
FACT: If you do not pay your traffic tickets in Florida, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will suspend your driver’s license indefinitely until you have paid all of your tickets.

2. Driving with a suspended license is no big deal.
FACT: Driving without a license in the state of Florida is a serious criminal offense with potentially severe consequences. If you are found guilty of driving with a suspended driver’s license three times in five years, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will classify you as a Habitual Traffic Offender and you will lose your license for five years.

3. Signing a ticket is the same as admitting you’re guilty
FACT: Signing a ticket is never viewed as an admission of guilt by the court.

4. If I’m arrested for DUI, I’m going to lose my license and there is nothing that can be done.
FACT: DUI offenders have 10 days to request a Formal Review hearing. Without a Formal Review hearing, a license will be suspended for a minimum of six months and a minimum hardship period of 30 days. Seligman recommends retaining an experienced attorney to help in such a situation.

5. I’m behind on paying court-ordered child support payments. But that doesn’t have anything to do with my driver’s license.
FACT: If you have fallen behind in court-ordered child support payments, the Florida Department of Revenue can suspend your driver's license. A qualified attorney can help you with possible remedies, including negotiating a payment plan and determining if you actually are capable of paying the total amount.

“You should always remember that what may appear to be a hopeless scenario to you is one that an experienced license suspension attorney can help you address,” Seligman said. “Having your license suspended can affect your ability to earn a living and live your life. We cannot promise to help everyone; however, the sooner we meet to devise a strategy, the sooner we can help you get back in good standing.”

Seligman suggests that anyone at risk of losing their license, or those with already suspended or revoked licenses contact his new hot line at: 954/760-7600 covering: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, and all of Florida. This new hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
