VA Loan Mortgages Sponsors New Social & Professional Networking App For Veterans

Hammers & Shields is a free social and professional networking app that the VA home loan lender expects to aid Veterans as they adjust to civilian life.

HOUSTON, TX, USA, June 13, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- VA Loan Mortgages is a Veteran-owned, VA-approved VA Loan lender that is dedicated to giving back to Veterans in any way possible. Their latest venture is no exception! They have sponsored the development of a new app for Veterans, called Hammers & Shields. This is a free mobile professional and social network for Veterans and is available for both Android and iOS.

"We are always looking for opportunities to help our Veterans. As a VA home loan lender, we meet with Veterans all the time and we understand the sacrifices these men and women have given to our country; it's only natural that we support programs that give something back to our Veterans like Hammers & Shields," said Colin Valencia of VA Loan Mortgages (www.valoansfinance.com).

Hammers & Shields is free to download and free to use. The social networking aspects of the app allow users to stay connected with fellow Veterans and service members from anywhere in the world. Features include a Veteran-Owned Business Directory, Veteran Places Check-in and a Veteran Careers and Projects section. It is the largest and most comprehensive social and professional network for Military Veterans.

The app can be used by Veterans to:
• find jobs and professional opportunities
• locate Veteran-owned businesses
• relocate by providing assistance selling or buying homes
• share information on local Veteran events
• participate in discussion forums and Veteran interest groups
• socialize with Veterans and active duty personnel

The app is currently available on iTunes: http://goo.gl/qeUIk8 and Google Play: http://goo.gl/kK58ev.

"We want to be able to provide veterans a way to connect, network, and support each other. We understand the unique struggles they face, especially as they readjust to civilian life, which is why we wanted to sponsor Hammers & Shields. The app can help ease that adjustment process and help Veterans maintain connections with the friends they made in the service or make new connections. It’s nice to know that there's a support system out there that can be accessed anytime, like Hammers & Shields," said Valencia.

Hammers & Shields was developed by friends and business partners, Colin Valencia and Moses Mendoza.

Valencia, a successful 35 year-old technology entrepreneur and venture capital investor originally founded the company as a passion project inspired by his father, a Veteran and huge inspiration for much of Valencia’s success. Seeing many of his good friends, such as Mendoza, return from Military Service needing a place online just for themselves — outside of mixed media social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Monster.com — inspired Valencia even further. Hammers & Shields was born from his desire to help and honor Veterans.

Mendoza is a service disabled veteran, who served 8 years in the United States Air Force with distinguished service in the Gulf War, Bosnian Conflict, and others, rising to the rank of E-5. Since that time Mendoza has continued to serve the country by working with U.S. Federal agencies in various security roles and working with veteran focused organizations. He is currently the Chairman and CEO of Wolfe Technologies & Consulting.

Mendoza struggled after his return to civilian life and his personal experience was a primary factor in his decision to support Hammers & Shields.

"It would have been nice to have the capability to quickly reach out to someone or a community where I can talk or voice my thoughts and know that someone out there will share in that same struggle or frustration and provide insight, guidance or support. Facebook is nice, but sometimes, I don’t want to share that part of my life with the whole world. I want my brothers and sisters in arms and their family and friends that understand what it's like," said Mendoza.
