GRID Alternatives provides job training, renewable power to low-income families; meeting follows EPA’s proposal of the Clean Power Plan released last week LOS ANGELES— On Friday, June 13th, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy will meet with GRID Alternatives officials and students from Los Angeles Trade Technical College’s Solar PV Technician certificate program during the installation of solar panels at a single-family home in Long Beach, California. GRID Alternatives is a non-profit honored by EPA, the White House and others for its innovative approach toward expanding solar energy adoption in the U.S. Administrator McCarthy’s trip to GRID Alternatives focuses on the ongoing efforts to support reliable, cost effective and sustainable clean energy that will protect the environment and make a difference in communities.

The meeting with GRID Alternatives follows EPA’s proposal of the Clean Power Plan released last week. At the direction of President Obama and after an unprecedented outreach effort, EPA released the proposal, which for the first time cuts carbon pollution from existing power plants, the single largest source of carbon pollution in the United States. Last week's proposal will protect public health, move the United States toward a cleaner environment and fight climate change while supplying Americans with reliable and affordable power.
