PotashCorp Children's Festival Arrives in Saskatoon June 1-4
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) is once again pleased to present the PotashCorp Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan, which will run June 1-4 on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon.
“At PotashCorp, we know that this festival is important to the city and the province and especially our youngest community members,” said Rhonda Speiss, PotashCorp’s Manager, Community Investment. “Through our sponsorship, we hope that families and children of all ages will enjoy the 2014 festival and help us kick off a well-deserved summer.”
Celebrating its 26th year, the festival has become synonymous with the unofficial start of summer in Saskatoon. It is estimated that over 20,000 children and family members attend the festival annually. Activities include dozens of hands-on exhibits, arts programming, international performances and kid-friendly activities. PotashCorp became the festival’s title sponsor in 2011.
“We are pleased to present the PotashCorp Fossil Find again this year. At this activity our employees have the opportunity to help kids dig for fossils and identify the treasures that they have uncovered,” explained Speiss. “The kids are so excited to learn they can take home these genuine fossils, like sharks’ teeth, which are millions of years old!”
A key component of the festival is its Outreach Program – which offers fully-sponsored performances and activities. Organizations from across the community participate in this program including Big Brothers/Big Sisters Saskatoon, SaskAbilities Council, Saskatoon Open Door Society and the YWCA Crisis Shelter & Residence. The Outreach Program also supports schools in need and helps provide bus rental subsidies, making the PotashCorp Children’s Festival truly accessible to everyone.
