This webinar will train attendees on how to use the BEopt tool, which was developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory through the Energy Department's Building America Program. Attendees will learn how this free software has helped to design and sell cost-effective, high-efficiency homes and how the tool provides opportunities for builders to improve their home designs by finding the best efficiency measures for specific climates and budgets.

May 21: Live Webinar on Placing Utility Energy Service Contract Task Orders

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "Placing UESC Task Orders with the GSA Areawide" on Wednesday, May 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar provides a step-by-step approach to placing a utility energy service contract (UESC) task order under a U.S. General Services Administration areawide contract. The training focuses on developing skills related to the acquisition plan, preliminary audit and findings, feasibility study and project proposal, contract for construction, construction and installation, performance assurance and acceptance, and post-construction and commissioning.

May 21: Live Webcast on the 2014 Farm Bill's Rural Energy for America Program

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "The 2014 Farm Bill's Rural Energy for America Program" on Wednesday, May 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) provides grants and loan guarantees to farmers, ranchers, and rural small businesses and electric cooperatives to install energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. During the webinar, Andy Olsen, a senior policy advocate for the Environmental Law and Policy Center, will describe the funding allocated to REAP in 2014, eligible recipients and technologies, application deadlines, and how to submit a complete application. In addition, Charles Newcomb, director of technology for Endurance Wind Power, will provide an industry perspective on the Farm Bill.

The webinar sponsors will present the next Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinar on Wednesday, May 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. This approach combines the most effective features of an energy audit and retro-commissioning, while avoiding the limitations of each. Webinar participants will also learn about a multi-disciplinary process to streamline site visit planning and on-site discovery, recommend corrective measures, establish a master list of findings, and complete the project handoff.

The multi-agency Sustainable Communities program works to support state, local, and tribal governments in planning activities to develop their communities in more environmentally and economically sustainable ways. Developing more sustainable communities supports our national goals of strengthening our economy and creating good jobs now, using energy more efficiently to secure energy independence, and protecting our natural environment and human health. Webinar attendees learned about other programs federal agencies have in place to help local communities with climate change impact assessments, mitigation, and adaptation.

April 24: Live Webinar on Stimulating Energy Efficiency in Kentucky

The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled "Stimulating Energy Efficiency in Kentucky" on Thursday, April 24. In 2010, Kentucky launched a stakeholder engagement process called Stimulating Energy Efficiency in Kentucky (SEE KY), designed to achieve consensus on the most effective voluntary efficiency strategies for reducing energy use in Kentucky. The resulting Action Plan for Energy Efficiency incorporates a series of voluntary efficiency measures in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.  During the webinar, Lee Colten of the Kentucky Division of Efficiency and Conservation, highlighted SEE KY's approach and provided insights for other states and local governments pursuing similar goals.
