The Michigan Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s (MDARD) Forestry Assistance Program (FAP) will be exhibiting at local hunting, fishing, and outdoor shows including Outdoorama, Traverse City Hunting and Fishing Expo, and the National Trappers Association 55th Convention and Sports Show.

These outdoor shows provide Michigan’s FAP with a platform to reach forestland owners of all types. Many forestland owners use their properties for recreation and attend various conventions and expos.

Under an agreement with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, MDARD awards grants to conservation districts across the state to provide education and one-on-one technical assistance to private landowners and to communities regarding local forest health issues. Professional foresters working out of 17 conservation district offices provide coverage for 42 counties across Michigan. The purpose of the program is to assist landowners to better understand, plan, manage, protect and utilize their forest resources.
