The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched the RE-Powering America's Land initiative to encourage renewable energy development on potentially contaminated land and mining sites. EPA collaborated with NREL and the Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa Indians to evaluate the wind resource and examine the feasibility of a wind project at a contaminated site on the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation in Minnesota.
