RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, CA, USA, December 30, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Cox Business and Inc. magazine held the "Get Started OC" event on October 22, 2013 at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin, California. Megan Duckett, founder of Sew What? Inc. and an Inc. 5000 winner, was one of the judges for the business pitch contest that was the highlight of the Orange County California event honoring local entrepreneurship and product innovation.

Nearly 60 business ideas from were submitted for Get Started OC, one of several “Get Started” events held nationwide. Five finalists were selected to pitch for the live OC event and the winner was determined by a panel of experts that included Duckett; Dave Berkus, speaker, author and angel investor; Mari Smith, one of the world's leading social media strategists; and Lindsay Blakely, senior editor of Inc.

Duckett was chosen for the contest’s panel for her experience as founder and president of a successful entrepreneurial business that has been covered by Inc. magazine several times. Sew What? has been on the Inc. 5000 list five times and Duckett has spoken at the annual Inc. 500 national conference. She found the Get Started event invigorating, saying “There's something very electrifying about entrepreneurs at the inception level. You lose that as you get further into your business, and it was inspiring for me to be around that energy again.”

“I'm flattered to be chosen as a judge, because I don't focus on my accomplishments as an individual,” says Duckett. “While I serve as the face of Sew What" I think this honor speaks to the accomplishments of my team. It's an indicator that they have helped me create something that is recognized as having value.”

The business pitch winner, Post-op Top took the top honors in Get Started OC (#GetStartedOC), earning top marks for originality, ease of implementation and benefit to the community. Post-op Top received a $10,000 Cox Business technology makeover.

Post-op Top provides comfortable, fashionable and affordable clothing for women to wear after surgery for breast cancer. Founder Lesa Behrens, a cancer survivor, was unable to move her arms after her double mastectomy, making dressing difficult. She vowed then to create a comfortable and stylish alternative to hospital gowns for women in a similar situation. Lesa and her sister, Cristi Roberts, run the growing company and plan to expand the business over the next few years.
