New Wasserman building strikes LEED gold, wins architectural awards

The new Edie and Lew Wasserman Building has been officially awarded Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Gold certification for the core and shell portion of the project.

The Edie and Lew Wasserman Eye Research Center is the third building of the Stein Eye Institute. The work done at the new building and at Stein Eye in general furthers the institute's goal to prevent blindness through the eradication of eye diseases.

LEED Gold is the third architectural award the building has received. A Community Impact Award was awarded it in 2011 at the Los Angeles Business Council’s Los Angeles Architectural Awards. And the building was named Best Medical Project by the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2013 Commercial Real Estate Awards.

President Bill Clinton said in a Wasserman tribute address: "This is about more than a new building; it's about the far-reaching effects blindness research will have on the quality of life for people around the globe."
