Western Hemisphere: Deputy Secretary of State William Burns To Deliver Remarks at the Fourth Annual Caribbean-United States Security Cooperation Dialogue
Deputy Secretary of State William Burns will deliver remarks on Caribbean-United States Security Cooperation, on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. at the U.S. Department of State. The event will also feature remarks by Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta S. Jacobson, Chairman of the Ministerial Council for National Security and Law Enforcement and Minister of National Security for The Bahamas Bernard J. Nottage, and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Colin Granderson.
The Fourth Annual Caribbean-United States Security Cooperation Dialogue, part of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), brings together representatives from the Caribbean states, United States, and international partners in order to strengthen regional cooperation on citizen security and promote effective and measurable results in combating transnational crime and violence.
Recognizing a strong link among security, social development, and economic growth, the dialogue builds on a partnership for security cooperation with the region initiated by President Obama, who launched CBSI at the 2009 Summit of the Americas. The dialogue will establish CBSI’s strategic direction for 2014.
CBSI is the latest pillar of a U.S. security strategy focused on citizen safety throughout the hemisphere. CBSI brings members of CARICOM and the Dominican Republic together to jointly collaborate on regional security with the United States as a partner.
